Sony à donc écouté les utilisateurs de PMW-EX1 et à procédé à une mise à niveau des principaux défauts rencontrés sur ce modèle
Le PMW-EX1R est doté maintenant de l'enregistrement DVCAM, une sortie HDMI, un viseur haute résolution et une fonction Push Auto Iris simple pression.

Tout comme son homologue d'épaule, le PMW-EX1R offre une ergonomie améliorée, notamment au niveau de la prise en main, des modes d'enregistrement au ralenti et en accéléré (Slow & Quick) et des boutons très accessibles. Il possède aussi d'autres atouts comme une transition de zoom fluide, une option d'inversion d'images et un enregistrement sur mémoire cache jusqu'à 15 secondes.
